Be a Puppeteer for the Big Man’s Day in Dumfries

  • When Big Man Walking comes to Dumfries on Saturday 29 May, he’ll bring with him the opportunity of the century – a competition to join his team of skilled puppeteers. In fact, it’s your chance to show him Dumfries!

To enter the competition go here.

All you have to do to enter is answer the question, ‘What would you show the Big Man about Dumfries and Galloway?’ in 140 characters or less. The two winners will join the rehearsal on Friday 28 May, and have the chance to operate the ¾ tonne, 8 metre tall giant.

Preparations are continuing apace for the exuberant and creative community involvement in the procession which will greet the Big Man on his big day in Dumfries. Big Man Walking is part of Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival, which takes place this year from 21 – 30 May.

A creature of legend, the Big Man arrived many thousands of years ago, when Scotland was a rough country of vast forests and wild beasts… He helped the people, cleared the land, carved inlets for fishing boats, and he chased the nightmare beasts from the forests. The Big Man created a land in which people could live and thrive. Then he was gone.

Now the Big Man is returning to visit our communities, in a celebration of what we have achieved in his absence. Dumfries is getting ready to welcome him…

This event is being organised by Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival working in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway Arts Association. Funding comes from EventScotland, Awards For All and Dumfries and Galloway Council to support the event costs and marketing which is focussed on bringing visitors into the region.
